Should I or shouldn’t I start a blog? I have been struggling with that idea for a while. On one hand, I love to reflect! I love to learn! I love to write! However, on the other hand, I didn’t know if anyone would read it. Then, a few months ago, as I entered my kitchen, my 7–year–old son was intently working on something. I questioned him and he responded, “I’m creating some rules and if dad follows them, I will give him points and he can earn a reward.” I tried to hide my distaste for such “systems” and let him continue to work. As a 24–year veteran educator and specialist in classroom management, I knew exactly what he was talking about and where this idea originated. In this moment, the scale was tipped and my blog was born.
Over the last 15 years, the majority of my professional life has been devoted to advocating for best practices with respect to classroom management. This has been accomplished through teaching college courses, presenting professional development workshops and guest talks, writing in professional journals, writing a book, and creating an app. Now, I am very excited to finally get this blog up and running and use it as a platform to also advocate for best practices with respect to classroom management. I invite all of you to join in this journey! Let’s learn from each other through respectful, thought–provoking, and challenging conversation!
